Donald trump continues to parrot falsehoods about mail-in voter fraud, even though he routinely votes by mail.
The real issue is that trump finds voting to be too complicated for him to understand. First, the Golden Oldie video of him attempting to vote resurfaced [LINK]. His resolution? He completed a provisional ballot, the second cousin, twice-removed, of a mailed ballot.
Next, trump tried to register to vote in Florida while claiming his legal residence was 1600 Pennsylvania NW, Washington, DC. Somebody needs to explain to him that one needs to live in whichever state where they’re going to vote. (Try drawing a picture with a Sharpie.)
During this same time-frame, trump declared that he lived in Manhattan.
The latest wrinkle is that Trump claims his legal residence is at Mar-a-Lago. However, in 1990, he converted Mar-a-Lago from a residence to a club. Among the rules is that no club member can live at Mar-a-Lago for more than 21 days per year, spread over three non-consecutive trips. Not exactly a typical legal residence.
Donald trump has withdrawn the United States from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia, the Open Skies Treaty with Russia, as well as many other treaties that included Russia as well as other nations. NATO is now much weaker, presenting . Our relations with traditional western European allies are in disarray.
It seems like trump an Putin speak regularly. However, trump said earlier this week that he has never discussed the bounty that Russia is paying the Taliban to kill Americans.
So tell me, EXACTLY WHAT THE HELL DO THOSE TWO TALK ABOUT?
There have been nearly 4 and one-half million cases of COVID-19, so far, with more than 151,850 deaths. Efforts from the administration to address the pandemic have not only been unsuccessful, but they’ve destroyed jobs for 17.75 million Americans.
The top 1 percent of the wealthiest Americans are doing just fine, thank you.
We no longer have the respect of the civilized world. China is eating our lunch. Putin is grinning. Wildly grinning.
The Treasury Department is run by the self-proclaimed “Foreclosure King.”
The First Lady is throwing her efforts into redoing the White House Rose Garden.
The White House is hiring more Fox News pundits. Since qualified people are long gone, some of these pundits are apparently replacing other pundits who have fallen out of favor.
I, Diogenes, was the founder of Cynicism as a philosophy, yet I have found a bright spot.
If you apply for a job at the White House, you may be discriminated against because of your race, creed, national origin, or sexual orientation. However, you will not be discriminated against for lack of intelligence or lack of ability.
In my time, we were just past the stage of banging rocks together. Your society may soon advance to that level.
Republican Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas has defended slavery as a necessary evil for America.
You people say the most amazing, incredible, and stupid things.
Buying and selling human beings was necessary for the development of your country? After the Renaissance? After the Great Enlightenment?
You should be deeply ashamed.
Your country has a lot of “developing” to do to before it can be considered civilized, much less developed..
Of course, the (choke, choke) distinguished (gag) gentleman from Arkansas might also point out the benefits of other fine American practices, such as ducking people to determine if they were witches (if they drowned, they were innocent). Then he could explain how tarring and feathering is as American apple pie along with vigilante justice and lynching.
I would like to see Mr. Cotton experience life in the reality he aspires to, but experience it as an enslaved African
Two United States Naval Academy alumni confronted the combat armored and combat armed Border Patrol thugs. (They aren’t actually troops and I cannot bring myself to refer to them as officers.)
The Naval Academy graduates did not know one another, having graduated years apart. Each had decided to go to Portland Oregon merely to observe. However, the early action of the trump’s militia were so brutal that they approached the thugs and asked if they understood the oath they had taken to the US Constitution.
The alumni also pointed out that they, as US Naval officers–one US Navy and one US Marine Corps–had been taught that they were REQUIRED to refuse to carry out illegal orders. The thugs were operating under an illegal order. The thugs response?
They tear gassed the US Navy and US Marine Corps veterans.
As the debate continues about Confederate monuments, I’d like for you to consider a few issues:
After the Civil War, Reconstruction, which was despised by the South, ended about 1877. This ushered in the Jim Crow era, which included various laws and practices to effectively disenfranchise and disadvantage the freed slaves.
Many, if not most monuments to the Confederate soldiers were erected after 1890 and peaked about 1909, when segregation was the norm, especially in the South.
It is not coincidence that more than a few of the monuments to confederate soldiers were located on sites that were former slave markets or whipping posts where slaves were flogged in public. You don’t have to be Sigmund Freud to figure out the not-so-hidden message.
I keep hearing apologia that the Confederate soldiers honored by these monuments were not traitors. Merriam Webster provides the definitions below. Many of those depicted in statues and other monuments attended or graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point, where they had taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. These include Robert E. Lee, Braxton Bragg, A.P. Hill, George Pickett, and John Bell Hood. For a more inclusive list, click here. They all took up arms and waged war against the country to which they had sworn an oath.
Definition of traitor
1 : one who betrays another’s trust or is false to an obligation or duty 2 : one who commits treason
Definition of treason
1 : the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign’s family 2 : the betrayal of a trust
The use of federal troops independent of state and local authorities in Portland, Oregon is disturbing. Word is that Chicago, Illinois will be next. After that, they may be coming to a neighborhood near you.
It’s bad enough that your president has manged to get para-military forces at his command. It’s worse that Americans in the employ of the federal government who have sworn an oath to the US Constitution have changed their allegiance to Trump and are complicit, if not worse.
I say that you should go all the way or not at all. If you don’t have the common sense to stop, then make Heinrich Himmler and Reinhard Heydrich your role models.
If you don’t know about Himmler and Heydrich, perhaps you should read up on them. You could learn a lot–even though, in the long run, things did not work out well for them.
